Why we're doing this

It started in late May 2025.

Out of nowhere, Kris suffered a seizure. What initially seemed like it might be heat exhaustion or a possible epilepsy referral quickly became something far more serious. After a CT scan in A&E, doctors discovered a lesion on his brain, and he was admitted to hospital immediately.

After more than a week in hospital, Kris was referred to the Neurosurgery team at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

There, surgeons explained that the tumour was located between the areas of the brain responsible for speech and motor skills. Because of its position, surgery would need to be performed while Kris was awake, allowing doctors to stimulate areas of the brain during the operation to determine what could safely be removed.

During surgery, Kris was woken up and asked to speak, identify photos of his children, and communicate with a psychologist while the surgeons worked.

The moment they stimulated the tumour area at the lowest setting, his speech stopped completely.

The surgeons made the heartbreaking decision that removing the tumour would likely cause catastrophic damage. Instead, they approached from another angle and were able to obtain two biopsy samples.

Kris woke up frightened, disoriented, and unable to speak.

Weeks later, his speech is still limited, although slowly improving. Every word matters. The first time he managed to say “I love you” again meant everything to the people around him.

Soon after came the devastating diagnosis:

Glioblastoma — an aggressive, fast-growing stage 4 brain tumour.

Even with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the prognosis is extremely poor.

Since receiving this news, the focus has been on finding every possible option to give Kris more time and the best possible chance to fight this disease.

During that search, the family connected with someone who had received the same diagnosis and prognosis, but who is now years beyond it after receiving a personalised vaccine treatment in Germany.

This treatment works by analysing the tumour’s genetic makeup and creating bespoke immunotherapy vaccines designed specifically for that individual cancer. The treatment involves multiple trips to Germany over many months and is not currently available through the NHS.

The goal of this fundraiser is to help Kris access that treatment.

£100,000 is needed to cover the treatment itself, alongside the travel and accommodation costs involved throughout the process.

More than anything, this fundraiser is about time.

Time for Kris to continue being a dad to Max and Freya.

Time to make more memories as a family.

Time to fight.

Every donation, share, and message of support genuinely means the world.

Thank you for helping give Kris the chance to keep going.
